作为我国历史上的著名窑口，耀州窑的烧造史始于唐代，历经五代的发展，在北宋时期达到鼎盛，金代延续烧制，直至元末明初才最终停火。这长达800余年的陶瓷制作历史中，其代表作品刻花青瓷以“巧如范金，精比琢玉”著称，被誉为“北方刻花青瓷之冠”，早在宋代便已名扬海内外。
耀州窑博物馆坐落于闻名全国的文物保护单位——耀州窑遗址。“十里窑场”留下了极为珍贵的陶瓷文化遗产。这里发掘面积超过1万平方米，出土了300多万件（片）文物，清理出200多座作坊和窑炉。无论是发掘规模、出土文物的数量，还是遗址遗迹的完整度及文化内涵的丰富性，在世界瓷窑遗址中都属罕见，堪称一座巨大的陶瓷文化宝库。
目前，耀州窑博物馆是国内规模最大、集遗址遗迹展示、文物标本陈列以及模拟古代制瓷工艺演示于一体的古陶瓷专题博物馆。遗址展示区由“唐代三彩作坊与窑炉”、“宋代制瓷作坊与窑炉”及“金代制瓷作坊群”三个保护厅构成，直观呈现了该窑的生产规模与工艺流程。主馆基本陈列分为三部分七个展室：“耀州窑史陈列”展出千余件文物，折射出该窑辉煌的烧造历程；“示范参与室”让观众亲手体验陶瓷制作；“参考研究室”则陈列各类标本千余片，供专业人员、院校师生实习及专家学者研究比对。博物馆期望成为您追溯历史、汲取知识的课堂，感受美感、陶冶情操的殿堂，以及连接过去与未来的桥梁。
